About
Before working in data science, I spent several years working in the world of educational non-profits. There I was fortunate to develop my communication skills in a variety of ways: speechwriting, curriculum development and training, and grant writing/reporting. The way that I approach data problems is very much informed by these experiences. Insights into data are useless unless they can be communicated to their intended audiences. More importantly, working in the world of non-profits requires careful and creative allocation of resources. Those skills have proven invaluable when tackling big data problems.
I also write from time to time at The Galleys, a website devoted to writing about sports and culture. Making arguments about seemingly trivial things is a habit I picked up in grad school and can't help but occasionally fall back on.
